Larson, other Democrats file articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem over ICE raids
Rep. John Larson (D 1st District) was among a group of Democrats in Congress to file articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem on Wednesday.
The move comes a week after an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
"On her watch, ICE has been transformed into President Trump’s secret police force. It was never a question of if, but when, these authoritarian abuses of the public trust would end in bloodshed," Larson said in a statement. "Secretary Noem has lost the trust of the American people and must face accountability for her failed leadership. I am in full support of impeachment proceedings that include a full, transparent investigation into the lawlessness occurring on her watch.”
Larson cited the death in Minneapolis and an incident in Hartford last week that Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said a protester was hit by a van being driven by what he believed was a federal employee.
The Democratic lawmakers filed three articles of impeachment, including Obstruction of Congress, Violation of Public Trust, and Self-Dealing, citing a $200 million ad campaign funded by taxpayer dollars.
