HOUSE-PASSED LEGISLATION CONTINUES TO STALL IN THE SENATE

House Democrats have been hard at work since day one of the Majority, delivering on our For the People agenda. We've passed legislation to lower health care and prescription drug costs, raise wages, expand opportunity, tackle corruption in Washington, and protect Americans. Yet, this legislation to address the priorities of the American people continues to stall in the Senate due to GOP obstruction.

HOUSE DEMOCRATS CONTINUE TO MAKE PROGRESS ON LEGISLATION IN COMMITTEES

In addition to bills passed on the House Floor, House Democrats are advancing additional legislation in Committees. For example:

  • Lowering Prescription Drug Costs
    • After holding numerous hearings on the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, House Democrats introduced H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, in September. The Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Education and Labor Committees have passed the legislation out of committee. It passed the House in December.
  • Voting Rights Advancement Act
    • The House introduced the Voting Rights Advancement Act in February to restore the protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Both the Judiciary Committee and Committee on House Administration are holding hearings on voting rights in America. The Judiciary Committee has passed the bill out of committee.   • Infrastructure
    • Multiple committees have held hearings on infrastructure, including the Transportation and Infrastructure, Ways and Means, Small Business, Budget, and Energy and Commerce Committees. While the President refuses to lead on our nation's infrastructure challenges, House Democrats are ready to work in good faith on a bipartisan infrastructure package.
  • Climate Change
    • The House has held over 80 hearings on the climate crisis, examining how to combat climate change, build a more resilient infrastructure, and boost the clean energy sector and creation of jobs. Democrats are continuing to advance legislation to effectively address the climate crisis.

OTHER IMPORTANT VOTES TAKEN BY HOUSE DEMOCRATS

The House has considered additional major pieces of legislation:

  • Legislation to reopen government in January and to prevent another shutdown on September 30.
  • The Bipartisan Budget Agreement to ensure we pay our nation's bills and help prevent another harmful shutdown.
  • A resolution directing the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in Yemen.
  • Three votes disapproving the national emergency declared by the President.
  • The National Resources Management Act, a conservation and public lands package that includes permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
  • The Disaster Relief Act, which provided additional funding to help Americans recovering from natural disasters.
  • The Never Forgot the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act.
  • The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020.
  • Three resolutions disapproving of arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
  • Legislation to provide funding for humanitarian assistance at the Southern Border.
