Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness’ call for action with federal and state leaders after President Trump issued a cruel executive order effectively criminalizing homelessness.

“With Donald Trump, cruelty is the point,” said Larson. “This disastrous executive order does nothing to support our homeless population, undermines the progress advocates like the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness have been making, and raises serious ethical questions about how our residents will be treated when they are institutionalized. We all know that for too many, affordable housing remains out of reach. Now, millions of Americans already struggling to make ends meet will have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table, thanks to the Republican Budget that Donald Trump signed into law. This Administration lacks basic empathy and is punishing Americans, many of whom are veterans, for the crime of being poor. I stand with the Connecticut Coalition to End Homeless against this inhumane and merciless order and will continue to advance solutions in Congress that support our homeless population and take on the affordable housing crisis – not criminalize people if they can’t afford a home.”

Rep. Larson introduced the bipartisan Neighborhood Homes Investment Act to increase the supply and quality of housing nationwide, making it more affordable for Americans to own a home. Rep. Larson also introduced the bipartisan Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act to support the conversion of many unused office spaces into reliable housing options. You can learn more about Rep.
