Larson Statement on Rep. Mike Doyle’s Retirement Announcement

October 18, 2021
Press Release

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01), released the following statement on the announcement that Rep. Mike Doyle (PA-18) will retire at the end of this term:

“It has been an honor to serve alongside Rep. Doyle. He has always been a strong and balanced voice for Pittsburgh and working families across America,” said Larson. “He is generally regarded as the leader of the Pennsylvania Corner since his mentor Jack Murtha passed. The Corner, as it’s commonly called, is where Mike, like Jack before him, holds court and where Speaker Pelosi would seek his advice. His role extended beyond his expertise on the Energy and Commerce Committee. He worked well across the aisle, always personable and accessible, but as his record as coach of the baseball team shows, highly competitive. In plain speak, he is a regular guy who is always ready to roll up his sleeves and utilize his wit and communication skills to get the job done for his beloved city of Pittsburgh. It has been my pleasure to not only work and serve with him, but to have become close friends with him, his wife, Susan, and family who he can now devote his full attention to.”
