Larson Celebrates Social Security’s Birthday, Calls for Expansion
Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined the Connecticut Alliance for Retired Americans to celebrate the 86th birthday of Social Security.
“Social Security is our nation’s most successful federal program. It is the foundation for Americans’ retirement security as they pay into it their entire working lives. As we combat the pandemic that has turned our lives upside down, the guarantee of Social Security is important now more than ever. In the fall, I will introduce a bill that will expand Social Security benefits. We can celebrate this American birthright by expanding Social Security now,” said Larson.
“Congressman Larson has long been a champion for preserving and strengthening Social Security, a lifeline for retirees. His leadership in Congress on this issue is an example of his commitment. The Alliance for Retired Americans is proud to support his efforts to expand this essential program,” said Bette Marafino, President of the Connecticut Alliance for Retired Americans.
Congressman Larson chairs the House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee and has proposed the historic Social Security 2100 Act, with a record 208 cosponsors in the last Congress.
