Larson Announces $700,000 for East Hartford’s Hockanum River Linear Park Trail
East Hartford, CT – Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced today that his $700,000 Community Funding Request for East Hartford’s Hockanum River Linear Park Trail was included in the House Transportation/HUD/Economic Development Initiatives Appropriations bill.
Extending from Hillside Street to Pitkin Street, the 3.5 mile-long trail provides recreational opportunities for both visitors and residents. Without funding for the trail’s rehabilitation, sections of the park may have to be closed to the public. These funds will allow for improved trail safety, enhanced facilities, and less risk of flood damage to the trail.
“I have been an advocate for our region’s greenways and blue ways throughout my entire career, and first secured a grant to establish the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail when I served in the State Senate. I’m proud to announce that $700,000 for repairs to the Trail have been included in the FY2022 appropriations package. These repairs will ensure that residents can enjoy this beautiful stretch of the Hockanum River for years to come,” said Larson.
“This funding is critical to the restoration, renewal and expansion of the Hockanum Trail, which is an important and valuable amenity for public enjoyment,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.
“Protecting our residents, improving access to the Hockanum River and providing Main Street development opportunity are critical goals for our town residents. Congressman Larson shares our community vision and these funds will greatly assist local efforts to improve the quality of life for East Hartford residents,” said Richard F. Kehoe, Chair of the East Hartford Town Council.
