April 22, 2026

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) issued the following statement on the passing of Rep. David Scott (GA-13), the first Black man to chair the House Committee on Agriculture.

“I am saddened to hear of Rep. David Scott’s passing. The people of Georgia’s 13th District have lost a lifelong public servant and advocate,” said Larson. “He made history as the first Black man to chair the Agriculture Committee, delivering for farmers, protecting access to nutrition assistance, and supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. I admired his dedication to the people of Georgia and his work uplifting Historically Black Colleges and Universities, connecting young people to educational and employment opportunities. His fighting spirit will be missed in the halls of Congress, and I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, staff, and his constituents during this difficult time.”
