Larson Demands Trump Administration Release Funding to Prevent SNAP Shutdown

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) called on the Trump Administration to release existing funds currently available to prevent a catastrophic lapse in SNAP benefits for the 42 million Americans who rely on them to feed their families.
“As costs soar and this shutdown drags on, Donald Trump is choosing to hold hungry families hostage to his political games,” said Larson. “If the President refuses to act, SNAP will be cut off entirely, taking food off the tables of women, children, seniors, and veterans – all in service of his own ego. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, NO ONE should go hungry. While Trump’s main focus remains his ballroom vanity project, I’m fighting to keep food on the table and protect health care for working families. Democrats are headed back to Washington to reopen government and deliver for the American people. Mr. President: It’s time to stop these manufactured crises and cruel games hurting our constituents. The ball is in your court.”
Earlier today, Larson sent a letter with Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05) and over 200 House Democrats calling for the immediate release of contingency funds to keep SNAP going. Without action from the Trump Administration, Connecticut families could lose access to food assistance starting on November 1st, deepening the pain communities are already feeling from the ongoing federal government shutdown.
