Larson Announces $550,000 for Our Piece of the Pie to Connect Youth in Hartford with Educational and Job Training Opportunities

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced $550,000 in federal funding for Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. to connect youth in Greater Hartford with educational and job training opportunities. Larson secured this new funding as part of a government funding package that passed the House in January.
“All young adults, especially those who’ve been underserved and overlooked, deserve support in meeting their educational and career goals,” said Larson. “I am so grateful for all of the work Our Piece of the Pie is doing in the Greater Hartford area to make sure at-risk youth are given a support system that helps them manage trauma, connect with their communities, and pursue fulfilling career pathways. I will continue to work with our local organizations and leadership like Mayor Arulampalam to invest in programs that ensure all of our young residents have the tools they need to be successful.”
“I am grateful for the advocacy and support of our federal partners, especially Congressman Larson, in providing this critical support to Our Piece of the Pie,” said Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam. “These funds will directly impact Hartford youth and allow them access to education, workforce opportunities, and the support they deserve.”
“The Congressman’s support isn't just about the investment,” said Hector Rivera, President and CEO of Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. “It’s about the belief that every young person in this city deserves a pathway to success. When we speak to our young people, they don’t just see a program; they see a community that hasn't given up on them. This continued investment ensures that we don't just ‘talk’ about economic mobility; we build the infrastructure to make it a reality for Hartford’s young people, regardless of their barriers. So, as we look toward the launch of our next decade of service for the Youth Service Corps, we do so with deep gratitude.”
Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. provides comprehensive supportive services, including mentorship, goal setting, education, and job placement, to youth in Greater Hartford ages 14-24 to help individuals meet their goals and prevent juvenile crime.
In October of 2024, Larson announced $650,000 for the Hispanic Federation to launch a new, community-based financial education initiative in Greater Hartford with four organizations, including Our Piece of the Pie.
