Ahead of Raskin Appearance in Hartford on Monday, Larson Announces Support for Raskin Bill to Establish a 25th Amendment Commission on Presidential Capacity
East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced he will cosponsor Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin’s bill to establish the Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of the Office. This follows Larson’s call on Vice President J.D. Vance and Members of the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment after President Trump threatened to annihilate a “whole civilization.” Earlier this week, Larson also filed articles of impeachment against President Trump to remove him from office.
“The American people know that President Trump is incapable of executing the duties of President of the United States,” said Larson. “Words matter. No president has ever called for the annihilation of an entire civilization – until this week. This is exactly why the 25th Amendment was put in place – to remove a president from office when they are no longer fit to serve. Unfortunately, a cabinet stacked with spineless cronies cannot be trusted to step in and fulfill their responsibilities to protect the country. The 25th Amendment empowers Congress to step in and delegate this solemn responsibility for this very reason. I applaud Ranking Member Jamie Raskin for his leadership and join him in supporting legislation that would put a nonpolitical panel of medical experts in charge of determining presidential fitness. The time to act is now.”
